After more than two years of establishment and development, on March 24, 2022, GV Lawyers participated in the annual member conference of the Packaging Recycling Organization Vietnam – PRO Vietnam HCMC 2022 to summarize the activities of the past year and orient future activities.

The annual meeting approved the activity reports and commitments of all members to achieve the set goals for 2022 and expressed the desire to continue receiving support from stakeholders to continue the mission of contributing to a Green – Clean – Beautiful Vietnam and towards a circular economy model to make the process of collecting and recycling packaging more accessible and sustainable.
Speaking at the conference, Mr. Pham Phu Ngoc Trai – Chairman of PRO Vietnam, said: The aspiration and vision of PRO Vietnam is that by 2030, all packaging produced and distributed in the domestic market by its members will be completely recycled and recovered in Vietnam. The activities proposed to achieve this goal include raising awareness and accessibility to recycling issues in Vietnam, especially in public areas; consolidating and improving collection points, ensuring the ability to recycle and process used products. These actions will reduce waste, breathe new life into post-consumer packaging, and even create more jobs for workers. As a guiding principle, PRO Vietnam was established based on the frameworks of the circular economy model to ensure the implementation of the 3R approach – Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle waste. Furthermore, the fundamental principle of PRO Vietnam is that members work together to quickly achieve results.
In 2021, amid the impact of the pandemic in Vietnam, PRO Vietnam adapted by shifting to online communication and connecting members to mobilize resources from their businesses, contributing food, beverages, protective clothing, waste containers, medical equipment (ambulances, ventilators, F0 treatment drugs…) to frontline units fighting the pandemic, with the value of two campaigns reaching nearly VND 100 billion. This also reflects the proud corporate citizenship spirit of the alliance members.
Notably, PRO Vietnam, through the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, continues to actively cooperate and support state management agencies on issues related to the implementation of extended producer responsibility (EPR), from the draft of the amended Environmental Protection Law passed by the National Assembly to the contents and implementation roadmap through Government Decrees, including communication issues supporting the implementation of the Decree.
2022 is considered an important year to accelerate PRO Vietnam’s activities, focusing on achieving goals such as: (i) Cooperating and supporting the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment in effectively implementing the EPR decree; (ii) Enhancing operational capacity; (iii) Implementing at least 3 collection and recycling projects; (iv) Collecting and recycling at least 3,000 tons of each material (PET, UBC, Laminates); (v) Supporting pilot projects through behavioral change campaigns to encourage sorting and recycling in the region; (vi) Strengthening strategic partnerships to carry out collection and recycling goals; and (vii) Expanding to include new members in the organization.
On this occasion, some members of PRO Vietnam showcased their products from their recycling projects:
“The PRO Vietnam initiative was born in the context of Vietnam facing increasing waste challenges, and stakeholders, including government agencies, consumers, businesses, etc., recognized their roles and responsibilities in waste management and recycling systems. Accordingly, PRO Vietnam officially launched on June 21, 2019, starting with 9 founding members and now having 19 members, including Annam Group, Coca-Cola Vietnam, FrieslandCampina, La Vie, Nestlé Vietnam, NutiFood, PepsiCo Vietnam, Saigon Co.op, SIG, Suntory PepsiCo Vietnam, Tetra Pak Vietnam, TH Group, URC Vietnam, RKW Vietnam, Ngoc Nghia, Ajinomoto Vietnam, Duy Tan, TTC, Mondelez Kinh Do Vietnam.”
