In the recent two days of June 25 and June 26, 2020 in Hoi An city, Quang Nam province, the Packaging Recycling Organization Vietnam (PRO Vietnam) – a social enterprise established and operated legally in Vietnam, has organized an event to summarize one year of establishment and operation to share the achieved results and orientations in the coming time to realize the goals, visions and missions set forth for a green, clean and beautiful Vietnamese environment.
Officially announcing its first establishment on June 21, 2019, PRO Vietnam consists of 13 founding members who are leading foreign-invested and Vietnamese enterprises in such areas as consumer goods, packaging, retailing and importing, with the same desire to contribute to a green, clean and beautiful Vietnam by promoting a circular economy model through facilitating the process of collecting and recycling product packaging to be made in a more accessible and sustainable manner. This is an important pillar in the 3R principle (Reduce – Reuse – Recycle).
At the event summarizing one year of operation, Mr. Pham Phu Ngoc Trai, the President of PRO Vietnam, shared “PRO Vietnam after one year of establishment has had initial results in orienting circular economy model for sustainable production and business operations from its members, cooperation with relevant partners and the State environmental management agencies. These results are all linked to general environmental protection activities nationwide. ”

Going forward, PRO Vietnam will focus on collecting and recycling packaging in both official and unofficial sectors. Thereby, PRO Vietnam aims to formally cooperate with the recycling industry and realize the circular economy model for the packaging industry by 2030.
On this occasion, PRO Vietnam has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with IUCN, the International Union for Conservation of Nature (www.iucn.org) the Department of Natural Resources and Environment, the Department of Sports and Tourism of Quang Nam Province to implement a pilot model of plastic waste management in Hoi An City, one of UNESCO’s world cultural heritages, contributing to preserving and protecting the natural landscape and boosting tourism in this city and extending its sincere thanks to the contributions and support of members and partners over the past year.
